Swearing

I remember a time when I shied away from anyone ever who said a bad word.

Strange evil- best to stay away. Parking lots with fateful sounds behind me. Never did my head swivel around my shoulder.

But tonight that vast sin transformed to beauty, at least in my foolish mind. A community of those I knew in stadium seating. Flags and metals graced ballroom floors. The crowd, hushed with anticipation, filling the unwanted silence with infinitesmal talk.

She was right beside me. Actually both were besides but only one I bothered to notice. Someone in the crowd dropped something and a 'bad word' followed. My old English teacher was behind me. Alright then, I'll go to hell.

And we looked at each other. I swore right then I'd freeze time if I could. Thank God for that little word.
