I remember walking down the city.

They say dreams are populated by one's subconsious. That's how I felt then- as if all these strange objects were projections.

There was one person who walked past me and smiled and I remember being disappointed.

Sad at life's brevity. I'd never get to know her or him or anyone worth knowing.

I liked cities because they made me feel small, and in doing so, I felt like I was a part of something huge.

Maybe one day when the scientists in their white coats come up with some immortality potion I'll be first in line.

But until then I can just walk past people and imagine their lives through their smiles.
