And the weird thing was, even though it felt like his life had just ended, it was a tremendously beautiful day.

He wondered if he could live off nature's beauty and love alone. He thought things might be easier that way, but that would kind of be like spitting in the face of humankind's progress.

He laughed. Progress.

The only thing honorable, he reflected, was their hard work and their ideals. Not much good happens past that.
