An old man, a war vet, whose path brought him to an elderly home somewhere off the map, sat alone at a table.

Young children walked in today. He spoke to one slowly, purposefully.

He had served in Vietnam.

"Uncle Sam doesn't care about you," he said, "he just cares about his own glory. If he really cared about the individual he'd've never sent people to the moon or funded all the wars. He would've tried to cure my illness."

Because of the medication he lost all his teeth.

"All because of a competition, now I don't have my teeth. Never join the army," he'd say.

The young boy left wondering what a country even was, past being the name given to something that thinks it has a clear idea of its borders.
