Night Driving

It was nighttime as we drove. We felt shielded in our car, a haven of light in a world of darkness.
It is comfortable knowing you have a true friend beside you. Our windows were down and cold air blasted through; we drove quickly but were under control.
I got the news by text. I looked down and saw something that I did not expect to see, although it spoke of an event I expected to happen.
I could have thought about it and had I I would have been sad and lonely. But I was surrounded by those who I loved. They had no idea what I was going through, but I sensed their support regardless.
So we drove on.
