Oftentimes the monotony and humdrumness of everyday life impressioned the boy. He was always told to be thankful and keep your grades up and don't go off somewhere and do something stupid.
In his third grade geography class he learned about faraway places and it shocked him when the teacher said they were real. It was different from what mom said about the shows; but he was getting bigger now and did not watch them much anymore.
He asked why they couldn't learn about the places by going there but the other students had laughed at him so he probably wasn't going to ask that again today. Looking back on it it was silly anyway.
Still though he felt a desire to go to these places but when he told mom she said the only way to get there was to do good in school. It was all very confusing.
But mom and his teacher were right most of the time, he told himself. No reason to stop taking them at their word now.
